I have a browning strike force xd(something like that) and it works pretty good.
A coworker let me borrow a Moultrie think it was the 550i. it was a good unit but didn't really take night pics even though I knew something should of tripped it due to tracks that weren't there the night before.

of the 2 the browning took better pics hands down. have not played with the video function.

fer yer setup I would look into a dedicated security camera system. unfortunately I don't know jack about that but have thought about it fer several years now.

Thank you Ruger.  I was on the fence between trail cam vs. video system.  I think I'll go with a multi & wireless system w/ DVR.  Who has one that is good?

Wainiha,

Video security technology is very advanced.

You need to determine what area(s) you want to monitor or video - is it "land" like acres?

Is it a small area - like a front or back yard?

Then you need to determine how many cameras you will need and what time of the day or night you want to record.

Typically power will be an issue.  Even if the cameras are "wireless" they will need to be powered.

If night recording is important, then you need to determine at what distance(s) you want to be able to record - IR -infrared lighting will be necessary.

Most security surveillance video cameras have IR (night vision) and motion detect to turn on the recording once triggered.

Also, most can be monitored and controlled through a cell phone, with text or email alerts.

How many minutes to you need to record?

Do you want have a local NVR or can the video recording be recorded in the "cloud"?

How secure do the cameras need to be?

Do you want to monitor live video with PTZ Pan, tilt, and zoom capability?

How much resolution do you need to clearly identify your target subject?

There are many options on Amazon, but some research will be necessary to choose the best system with the best features for your application.

It may take some research, but you should be able to find a system that will do what you want within a reasonable cost and investment.

As you may have already seen on Amazon, there is wide range of prices and options.

Gnarls.
