1980 20r with new stock carburetor wonít pass smog
« on: Oct 18, 2019, 06:46:21 PM »
I put a new or rebuilt stock carburetor for in my 20r after buying it from someone who accidentally put diesel in it
Iíve done multiple oil changes, spark plugs, wires, distributer cap, rotor, fuel filter, checked all vacuum lines, got new muffler and tail pipe, cat looks good, header/ manifold looks good.
But it still wonít pass CA smog emissions
Anyone have problems with there carb in CA?

Check your EGR valve. I just finished installing one on my 82 rebuild and almost forgot to clean that lower vacum line. Mine was almost completely clogged. National Carburetor is the Only rebuild shop I would trust. Prices are reasonable too.

Have you ran a compression test? I would double check that. On my engine all cylinders were above 165 except for 1 at 95. It would never pass smog without a rebuild.

If diesel was put into your tank, you'll need to flush/replace that tank and run some serious fuel cleaner through your whole system, at the very least.  Diesel residue will be leaching off the tank and fuel lines and fuel filter causing extra carbon for you to try burn, "NO PASS SMOG".  Just sayin'.   :smack:
