67 fj40 diesel swap, VW 1.9 TD, w56...
« on: Sep 07, 2019, 09:31:57 AM »
Guys I am starting a new diesel swap and I know that some of you folks have already been down this path. I am hoping someone has an adapter laying around so I don't have to make one. Here's where I am starting. I have done many diesel swaps over the years, I'm an ASE master diesel tech.

1967 fj40 cruiser basket case. Great body but everything else is junk.
1996 VW Jetta 1.9 with a ton of work already done. The engine has been fully built and blue printed. Head studs, custom girdle, injectors, turbo...essentially everything you can do to one. Estimate is somewhere near 240hp as it is.
W56 5 speed and marlin crawler doubler.

At this point I'm thinking that the stock cruiser axles should be fine with no larger than a 35" tire. They will eventually get longfields and disc brakes if I decide to keep them in the long run. They should be fine to get it going again under it's own power.

So if anyone has a Toyota to VW diesel adapter, let me know. I am looking for one.
