1991 Toyota 4runner Low Idle problems
« on: Aug 15, 2019, 12:29:43 PM »
Hey Everyone!

I'm having troubles with my 22re in my 1991 4Runner dying when it gets up to temp. What happens is, after driving it for a while and getting it up to running temp I will go into neutral and it drops in RPM (500 rpm or lower) while also losing oil pressure (near zero or very minimal) it will gradually start to die. I can negate this slow death by opening up the throttle, still in neutral, to keep it at 1000rpm and thus alive. Once I am moving, the oil pressure is nominal and it doesn't make any unusual noises.

I got this recently and the guy said he got a new engine in it because the old one was toast. So my thought is that something with the idle control is off or if there is a sensor that is giving or getting a wrong signal and that intern is throwing or something with the idle control. Maybe it was not properly installed.
I'm hoping to get a diagnosis here so that I won't need to go to a mechanic. Any thoughts will be helpful!!
