Can you put a tacoma prerunner rear end on a ifs yota??
« on: Jul 28, 2019, 08:57:47 PM »
Just out of curiosity...for now.. If one were so inclined could one replace the stock ifs rear end with a tacoma rear end? For simplicity's  sake, let's say that the IFS truck in question has been converted to 2wd.
Would this be a "easy" way to gain a locker and rear discs all in one go? or is there a  fatal difference in engineering that renders the idea impractical?

work fine. just wire the locker. the load sensing proportioning valve (lspv) might need tweeking though.

You guys are the best, I learn so much. If I bought a whole donor truck for my upcoming 3rz swap I was contemplating retaining the rear end, if it had locker.  I also was revingn an old longin for a long travel front end and was looking fo a way to match the gain in width. If my research is correct, my factory rear is 58" and a 95-2004 tacoma rear is 60.75", that would put me within .25" of matching the 3" gain of a JD fab long travel kit.

Scratch that: I re-read the long travel specs and saw that its 3" gain on both sides. But still would be nice to have a locker

If all your looking for is the locker then get one out of  a late model 4runner or a TRD taco. you would have to grind some notches and add some threaded holes for the two additional studs but It's not too bad.
