A/C clutch not working
« on: Jul 15, 2019, 07:03:34 AM »
I have an 85 4Runner with factory A/C.  The compressor clutch engages when I jump the wire, but will not come on without it.  Is there a high pressure switch and if not what could be wrong?  Thanks.

Did you check the associated fuses and wiring? I believe there is a high pressure switch, located with the evaporator? I could be wrong, I don't have AC but I've read up on it because I want it.
There's a sub harness the switch connects too, I'd check there first. Switch could be bad too.

I know that you have to have a certain amount of refrigerant pressure for the system to engage so it may be low

The A/C blows cold when the clutch is engaged.  The pressure is fine.

There's a fuse behind the glove box.

I found the A/C circuit in the manual and thought it was probably the low pressure switch since it was also not idling up when the A/C was on.  I jumped the switch and the A/C came on.  Thanks for the help.
