what motor oil to use
« on: Jun 11, 2019, 05:12:39 PM »
Maybe a dumb question but I am new to the crawler world. I bought a 1986 pickup that was already 90% done. I am servicing it but had a question as to what motor oil to use. The truck has been converted to propane and I've heard you should use this special oil that I can only buy by the case and it's like $70. I thought this would be a good place to get a straight answer. Thanks

A case is 12 qts. If you break it down, that's less then 35 an oil change. Not to bad...

My boys and I all run rotella t6 in all our 22re engines.
It’s excellent stuff
Pull up some of the test videos on YouTube. I was very impressed

I ran 15-40 rotella in all of my 20 and 22r engines. I've never had trouble. Also all of our equipment at the mill runs 15-40. We have about 75 Toyota fork trucks out here with the 3y engines and they all get 15-40 as well.

I have faithfully used Quaker State 10w40 in everything I've driven and never had an issue. That idea was passed down from my Grandpa when we opened up an engine of his and to our surprise there was no gunk or build-up what-so-ever! The inside of his engine was spotless.  He needed new head gaskets, btw. It was a 1970 2 door Pontiac Lemans 350 ci. Some don't like it but I don't know why...maybe they do 80,000 mile oil changes....:D
Yours may go fast, but, mine can go anywhere and if you get in my way, I'll run over you with my big tires, the Taco Box way...... Nice and slowwwwwwww......
