1986 22re rear freeze plug
« on: Apr 15, 2019, 10:28:41 PM »
I have a 1986 Toyota 4x4 extended cab pickup with a 5 speed transmission. My problem is the rear freeze plug is leaking. I pulled the coolant line that runs behind the block and it was fine. I also replaced the gasket on the egr block off plate on the rear of the head . It was still leaking I either have a cracked block or that freeze plug is the problem.it is driping down between the engine and the transmission . I am hoping it is the plug. My question is do I havề to pull the engine out or would I be able to drop the tranny and get access there to pound it in. I appreciate any help thank you

I believe you have to remove the flywheel.

I would ONLY use 22RE Performance freeze plugs, and ask Jerry or Jim what they recommend for installing them into the back of the block.

Having a leaking freeze plug and dropping the tranny really sucks!!
