early and late r150f swaps
« on: Apr 11, 2019, 12:08:01 PM »
For the folks who are swapping different generation r150s. Here is my discovery. The difference i ran into was the size of the bearings. Bigger bearings in the later models like 95-up. 3.4 tacomas and t-100. And in some models (very rare and difficult to find) they have longer input shafts 10" versus the 8 7/8 shaft. Easy fix. you can buy a new input shaft from a supplier and simply swap the input shaft for about $80.00. Bell housings are pretty easy to source as well. I used Marlin Hardened thrust bearings and retainers. and just because i was so far into it i replaced the bearings, syncros and seals. A little grey silicone to seal it up and Redline MTL gl5 oil and she is smooth as silk and pretty dang stout. So for about 400 bucks i built quite a nice sturdy unit.

Does Redline make MTL in a GL-5?   I thought it was only a GL-4?
