Hello all
Looking to go 4 link and keeping my truck CA street legal and smog legal  1982 pickup 22re

Can i still pass smog inspection with my stock fuel tank removed and using an in bed /under bed custom fuel cell? Looking for an aftermarket one to install.

Also if i go 3rz in the future and need BAR inspection with the fuel cell be acceptable?

Depends on how smart the SMOG guy is, but the real answer is no!!

Seeing how the tech has to be able to test the EVAP system and cap for leaks, as well as not having a filler neck that prevents fumes from freely entering the air while filling up, I am guessing they don't.  Chances are you will need to run two types of tanks, a cell for the trail, and small tank with the oem fittings, neck, and cap for smog tests, as well as for any "green" or "by the book" LEO you encounter on the street.

I was thinking of putting the tank in bed and routing the filler neck out to the original fuel door. Building on what Snowtoy said.
I could possibly modify a stock fuel tank and make it small capacity tank and use a large auxiliary tank as my “main capacity tank”

On top of artificially inflated gas prices, and the cost of the additives that allegedly burn cleaner while causing you to burn more fuel per mile.

If there is room for a tank behind the cab, the Corolla's from the same yrs had 13-16 gallon tanks, the Civic had an 11, and the Escort a 10, so you should have factory alternatives to cutting down the stock tank or buying a custom made one.
