A340H to A340F on 87 4runner
« on: Feb 25, 2019, 06:58:13 PM »
Before I get toasted, yes I have read 4x4wires write up on this many times. That write up is very informative but is for a v6 while I have 4 cylinder. I’m planning on using an A340f from a 98 4runner and a stock manually actuated transfer case. Besides keeping my bell housing and torque converter what else will be used from the old tranny? What other parts will I need to purchase? Will my console and driveshafts remain the same length? My neighbor who’s a retired mechanic just started showing me the ropes and will be doing most the swap but I need all parts sourced and as much info as possible . Any input / tips are appreciated.

I wouldn't guarantee the TC will fit, different input spline count. I know the RZ and VZ converters are the same spline but not the R/RE from when I did my RE to RZ swap. But you can't bolt a VZ converter to a RE flex plate. I would bet drive shafts will need to be redone. Not sure about the VSS wiring.
