D.O.A. Roller rockers 22R
« on: Feb 11, 2019, 08:20:00 PM »
Talked to Tim at D.O.A. racing engines & they're about to release 22R/E roller rockers arms for sale soon. He said they've had roller cams & rockers both since 1994 but not available publicly. No word on any roller cam release though. Anyway I'm excited & plan to order a set for my build that's in the works

I am interested to see this work. I have always wondered why they didn't do this in the first place.

I had asked another company that does a lot with the 22R/E engines why & they said cost to performance gains made them think the R&D cost would be difficult to recoup. I don't expect big power gains but I think they're a less friction upgrade & longevity is what I'm after

That's sweet I would run some.

Can't speak on that, just passing on what the man told me. On another note the same day I spoke to REDLINE CAM & CRANK in Oregon ( engine builders cam manf. ) & they are working with a cnc machinists to release some as well

It's an 82 22R ultimately replacing  my current 22r. It'll be my first 22r/Toyota build , but not my first engine build. Planning to get all the power out I can from the head with some porting & hopefully a full roller set up but if not at least roller tip rockers just because,  Fi-Tech 2bbl efi, header, offy intake. The short block will just be a heavy duty build with all the compression I can run on my local crappy pump gas with some arp goodies holding it all together. I'm just in the planning stages right now & have a solid engine in the truck so no rush. Looking for 160-180 hp nothing crazy

cost/benefit

I had asked another company that does a lot with the 22R/E engines why & they said cost to performance gains made them think the R&D cost would be difficult to recoup. I don't expect big power gains but I think they're a less friction upgrade & longevity is what I'm after

These engines will run for 200k+ miles with a factory cam in place.  How much more longevity did the engineers need to design for?

I agree that the R&D seems like it would be difficult to recoup.  This is going to be an expensive mod and not that many people are building 22Rs any more.
