Cab mount rust repair - 1982 Toyota
« on: Jan 30, 2019, 04:22:00 AM »
Hi all,

I have found some rust in a rear cab mount of my dual cab 1982 Toyota. Please see the attached pictures.

Now this is unfortunately in one of the cab mounts that most people reading this won't recognise as it is a dual cab specific mount. I'm assuming that it'll be the same as other cab mounts though.

Now I have welded up rust in car panels and bodies before, but should I be doing anything differently with this cab mount? My plan was to cut the rusty metal out, make up a new section of metal, weld it in and then drill a hole for the cab mount as required. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Will it be reinforced in that area or just the same as the rest of the body around it?

As long as your gauge of patch panel is the same as the existing I dont see how it would be any weaker. I'd roll with that plan.

that area is going to be 3/16 or maybe 1/4 inch  around the mount out around 6 inches.  I cut up a 83 cab to find out and it was floor thickness doubled.
