Any parts usable pulled from fire?
« on: Dec 16, 2018, 07:52:39 PM »
My home and 99% of my belongings were lost in the Camp Fore last month. We were able to go up this weekend and go through the rubble. I'd been collecting parts for the revamp of my 4runner for several years now.

The main reason for the post though is I'm hoping BigMike might chime in. I searched and found my brand new in box set of Marlin 4.7 gears. They were among the rubble of a burnt workshop and the bearings were rusted. But visually the gears look ok.

Any chance anyone might know if they're still usable? Or has the heat from the fire made them more fragile now? I also found the 23 spline coupler from my Marlin dual case adapter I never got to put together. So hopefully it could be reused as well

One bit of good news from my property is that my 4runner somehow made it out of the fire sitting in the backyard. Where even a truck 5 ft behind it burnt down.

Cardboard box was non-existent.

Prolly smoked. Heat treating is all messed up now

That's what I was afraid of. It's real unfortunate because I had numerous brand new parts and tons of used things I've been saving for years.
This fire was hot enough to completely melt anything aluminum such as other t-cases, and rims. Pretty unreal to see the town in person

Are the pics of the trucks from after the fire? There is a building the 4runner is inside?

The first pic shows how close a parts f250 was sitting behind it that burned. I got a Sheriff escort to retrieve it and look for an animal. The second pic shows the only real damage it received, but that was after I towed it down the hill that day and am keeping it in my shop at work.

We had 6 vehicles left on the property and all burned except my 4runner. The wife's 1st Gen 4runner didn't fare so well. It completely burned
