1980 toyota pickup advice
« on: Nov 12, 2018, 09:53:23 PM »
Hey friends I'm new to the toyota world and I'm trying to seek some advice. I currently own a 1980 toyota pickup with a 20r engine and a 4 speed L43 transmission. My 2nd gear grinds real bad before it grabs and I've been doing some research on just swapping a 5 speed into it. What would you guys recommend as far as a direct bolt on? I'm not sure what transmissions will work best or really where to start so I thought I'd start here. Thanks any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I would follow that link too, but I think people swap in earlier W series 5 speeds, IIRC.
Naturally a realist, preferably an optimist.

I appreciate the input guys. After following the link I was looking at the specs on the L52 transmission and I seems to be the same length and I thought I read somewhere that it was a direct bolt on because of this. Any opinions on this?
