Ditch lights?
« on: Oct 22, 2018, 08:59:57 PM »
Who has them or uses them?  Are they useful?  I was considering a set for my  2012 Taco.  CBI has brackets  and they used to have Rigid cubes on the website.  I live in the dark areas without streetlights.

Who has a set up and how pleased are you with them?  Vendors?

They are brackets that hold the lights/light pods.  They mount on the corners by the hood hinges.  Meant to shine off the side of the truck.  So a ditch would be visible at night when offroad.

I've only seen them on CBI offroad.  Dont know if they are a decent addition.  Its dark where I live...no street lights and when cornering I cant see.

Its dark where most of us go in our trucks.

Are you talking about running this while driving on road? Legalities in your area? I would bet a no go.
Off road i personally dont see the point, my headlights provide enough light I can see ditches, i also added a cheap light bar.  And i have rocklights i have on when im offroad at night usually.  I dont see the added benefit of ditch lights, and i have never seen anyone run them personally.  Like most things though, function over form..  if it helps you see in a beneficial manner, then run em.  Just keep in mind they would definitely get you pulled over around here on road, even if you turn them off when vehicles are approaching.  :dunno:

What is a ditch light?

Looks like you could run one as a spotlight in Hawaii.
§291-30 Spotlights.

No spotlight shall be used in any city, town, or village, and no spotlight shall be so used as to shine in the eyes of the drivers of approaching passing vehicles, and when used every spotlight shall be turned off not less than two hundred feet from an approaching vehicle.

Is there any adjustment in the oem driving lights?

Yes I'll run them on the road.  And I'm sure they're not legal.  Special rules apply where I'm driving...Construction/Emergency highway repairs.

And better headlights are on the list as well, mine suck

I wonder if rock lights would do the job.  I have to see the edges of the road.  Construction site is always changing(narrowing) the road.

i have installed 4 cree led cubes on my power wagon. i use them constantly. they are aimed aggressively towards the ditches on either side. i haven't been flashed yet, even in the hateful state of California. i drive cross country last month and didnt turn them off once, no flashing, no law enforcement concerns.

they are super helpful

I run Sierra led rock lights on the wheeler and there led cubes on the tow rig and 4runner. They are just as good as Rigid and a little cheaper.

I bought Rigid rock lights  (4 pods) from Sierra Expeditions for $365.00 including shipping to Hawaii.

Hope they do the job and are worth the $.

I don't have time for complicated wiring...I already have a set of LEDs wired up on my other truck.  Weather pak connectors, Blue Sea fuse box and Bussman breaker(terminology?).  Good but a pain to setup.

So as not to poach on Big Mikes thread...I will continue my lighting questions and posts here.  Rigid rock lights not installed yet.  Reverse bulbs that Big Mike bought, I ordered.  Looked up JDM Astar headlights($60-80) and will order those if I'm happy with the reverse ones.

If they are good enough for Marlin Crawler I'm sure they'll be good enough for me.

No ditch lights for me, just the rock lights.  I haven't decided on exactly where I'll mount them yet.  Ordered the Brightbox for headlights.  Hope it's worth it.

Putting this here because it regards my lighting situation.  I bought the Brite Box.  It didn't work correctly.  The low beams are suppose to stay on when the high beams are activated.  That worked.
The fogs are also to be able to stay on.  Only the passenger would work.  I thought it was the plug to the fog light...it wouldn't seat all the way.  I fixed that, but still, no.

Anyone have any experience with this product?

With it not working correctly from the start, I would contact them and ask for a replacement.

Does the right fog light work w/the lows on?

Yes both fogs work normal w/o the box.  WITH the box low beams and high work together, BUT only the passenger fog w/ the box.

Sorry my computer or phone won't let me upload pics.  It came with an intermediary plug for one headlight(controls them both) and one fog plug that works the same.  Red wire fused to the positive on the battery.  I think the box must be defective given that everything works properly except drivers fog.

What is a ditch light?

They're lights you put at the base of the windshield so you get reflection off the hood, rather than mounting the lights to the front of the vehicle where they belong  ;)
