So, I was out of town for a couple of weeks and came home to an ice cube bin full of frozen water and big chunk of ice inside the freezer...…..
Happened last time I was out of town too.
Thought it was a fluke last time, did some minor testing and didn't find anything.
Did a lot more testing this time, and
didn't find anything wrong with the solenoid or anything else.
Lots of internet searching and then it ALL made sense.
It seems that the water solenoid needs a minimum pressure to work or it starts leaking.
Before I went out of town, (and the previous time) I started to turn the main water valve off. (old house, had a pin hole leak in the crawlspace about 6 months ago, so I figured I should start turning main off when out of town)
So when the water pressure dropped (either an ice cycle or a toilet fill (those flapper valves aren't perfect)) my ice maker started overflowing.....
So when you turn off the water main, turn off the ice maker too.
