Top shift t-case on a forward shift W56?
« on: Aug 08, 2018, 11:59:23 AM »
Apologies in advance. I tried search and got too many results. I have an 88 4Runner with a top shift W56-B transmission/transfer case. The synchros are gone in 3rd and all I can find near me (and afford) are forward shift W56. Can I mount my top shift transfer case on a forward shift W56 transmission? How do I plug the now empty transfer case shifter hole and shift fork channel on the forward shift W56 transmission?

Yes it will fit. Just make a blank plate to RTV and bolt onto the shifter hole before you install everything. You will need to cut a hole in your trans tunnel for the shifter to fit through. I think the two transmissions had slightly different shifter positions.
