22r to 3rz swap on 84 Extra cab
« on: Mar 03, 2018, 06:07:58 AM »
So I am new to engine swaps, and efi... :qtip: but I have a 1998 Tacoma 3rz, w59 bell housing, I got the motor mounts, and t100 oil pan but before I go into this head first I wanted to clear some things up.
1) What inline fuel pump would you guys recommend?

2) How much wiring is there to do since I'm going from a 22r?

3) Can I use my 22r radiator or should I get a bigger one and I so out of what?

4) How do you remove the plug to install the new dipstick?

Thanks for the help, it is much needed!

1) I highly recommend swapping a tank from an efi truck. As long as it is the same capacity (gallons) as yours it will bolt right up. The feed line to the engine is larger on efi trucks than carb trucks so grab that fuel line as well.

2) the wiring in your 2nd gen cab is relatively the same as an efi truck so your not that far off. You will have to run power to fuel pump obviously. Are you in California or another emissions state? That will obviously have bearing on wiring as well.

3) your 22r radiator will work. I however prefer an all aluminum 3 core v6 radiator that can be had off eBay for roughly $150.

4) when you remove your oil pan you can easily tap the dipstick plug out.

Thanks for the reply, I'm in the state of Washington and do not need to pass emissions. I can search for an RE fuel tank and swap that in, and the guy i got the engine from said he has done lots of these swaps and he cut a plug off of the ecu and told me all i need to so is splice it into 1 plug behind my dash.

It is fairly simple but you will also have to re pin some things in that dash harness plug. Get you the schematic for each of the trucks serial number specific. Then compare and complete.
