Its actually all very clean minus the oil leak. Just the flash and the worn down old black paint that makes it look so dirty. This truck hasn't seen dirt yet. She's a virgin.

Bored and waiting for parts. Pulled out and emptied my spares and fluids bags today to get inventory and figure out the holes I need to fill.

You know its not out of my scope. Just a matter of if the truck is done. Which shouldn't be a problem.

*I fixed your typos in the quote. Must have been phone typing.

That would still give you at least 3 months between the two trips to reload.  You'll find something you want/need to upgrade or change after the first big trip.

Day zero,
My 40 mile freeway drive home from Andrew’s home in BFE.
Here are My takeaways, impressions, and thoughts.
#1 The brake pedal.
It’s really low, She stops but in a panic situation it could be an issue.
No improvement from pumping the pedal.
I suspect stuck caliper or bypassing master cylinder.
Leaving this one for Andrew to tackle.

#2 He needs diff gears.
Going up a hill at freeway speeds You can tell that the big tires are causing an issue.
Land cruisers normally have power to spare but not in this current configuration.
I am sure Whitey will be getting a set of 5.29s in the future so no big deal at the moment.

#3 The automatic transmission.
I am sure it’s acceptable for some of You, but for Me it’s just not ok.
I don’t feel right, I keep reaching for the shifter. Hell I think I even tried for the clutch pedal once.
It’s just wrong!  Personal preference but I can’t ever see Myself Wheeling an auto.

#4 The tires and wheels.
First off let Me say the combo looks really good, not to big not to small. Dare I say perfect.
Yeh the tires rub when You back up and it sounds like your about to remove a fender, but it Looks good doing it.
It’s getting a lift in a few days so who cares if it rubs.
The MT2s are so quiet and smooth. What a great tire, ProComp has a winner for sure.

#5 Cream puff?
I must say it’s very clean inside and well setup. Fancy blinding lights, a big ass fridge, tons of Cargo area, and cup holders. Yep! Multiple cup holders. I wish I had One cup holder!
The tint job looks solid and the A/C well that’s the :pokinit:.
I will say that it smells like an ex smoker’s car unless My boy Andrew has turned to the dark side?
I checked the ash tray out of fear and concern. No snipes but there was some ash?
Overall for 200k + it’s in excellent shape.

#6 It feels to Me like something is loose in the suspension. Not sure what, but I can feel something move every once in a while. Sometimes during transition from forward to reverse. Sometimes over just the right bump when the front has a bit more weight on it, like a slight down hill. Not sure if it matters again as it’s getting a lift soon and likely will get found or cured.

#7 That Marlin transfer case shifter looks so sweet, I hope I get one in My 4.7 marlin set.

Day 1

Goals
Install Marlin Crawler tcase gears
Find Exhaust leaks
Diagnose oil leak locations (it’s a land cruiser)
Look into replacement Toyota keys
Replace radiator
Replace a few difficult to reach heater hoses

How it went down.
First hold up was getting distilled water from the grocery store (Andrew forgot).
Got there at 6:30 and proceeded to wait till 7am when they open.
Traffic sucks after 7am so it took 45 to an hour instead of 30 min like My normal commute.
Next I had to deal with almost every guy I work with coming over to snoop, check it out, ask if it’s mine, ask what I’m doing to it, how big are those tires, what’s it worth, and how much are You making on this job.
Lastly I had to defend against the distractacon (Jesse) as He upped his game from normal talk and banter to :pokinit: talking all Bestgens. Mission accomplished as He had pushed a sensative button. Note He also tried to hit Me in the junk With an air hose because I was ignoring him. He missed thank God!

Ok back to the truck
Exhaust leak was found to be leaking at both connections where the exhaust hook to both manifolds. Andrew thinks it could be the cheap gaskets He received. I think it’s the aftermarket flanges. I hope He is correct And I am wrong.

Oil leaks
Oil leaking from the rear main seal, no surprise. Valve cover gasket and cam plugs. Also the front crank shaft seal, I could actually see the seal hanging out a bit. Lots of oil all over.
Now it's well know that this era of land cruiser leaks oil and most technician won't even attempt a repair unless oil is running out. I would say these are medium size leaks but I can smell the burning oil when at a stop light and when it was parked in My garage last night.
Parts ordered to replace the valve cover gasket, reseal the cam plugs, pcv valve and crank seal.

T case gears
I seriously underestimated what was involved in this job.
I used both the trail gear and Marlin crawler instructions. Both were lacking information but together they covered most of the bases.
A bit of challenging press work.
Lots and lots of cleaning to avoid metal after clearancing.
Turned out perfectly just took a long time to do it carfully.

That was all for day one.
Tried out the low gears, definitely better and a worth while upgrade.

Day 2

Goals
Valve cover gasket replace and reseal cam plugs
Replace three heater hoses
Flush cooling system
Replace radiator
Replace front crank seal
Two new keys
Replace drive belts
Replace three radiator hoses

Started out replacing three heater system hoses Andrew wanted replaced with fancy silicone ones. Very nice pieces.
One of the hoses was located under the intake manifold at the back of the head, bit of a challenge to access even on the rack. While replacing these hoses I uncovered three small coolant leaks. The heater control valve, front tbody coolant hose, and another small coolant hose under the intake manifold.  As vehicles get older, the parts that once were Stocked become special order. All three of leaking cooling system parts I found were unfortunately now special order parts. I gave the clamps on the hoses a small twist to slow or stop the small leaks until Andrew can get the replacement parts.
Pulled the block drain and flushed the cooling system with water.
Removed the radiator and then off with the belts.
Replaced the front crank seal and cleaned off all the oil leak mess from the front of the engine.
I added some dye to the engine oil to help pin point any future oil leaks the engine might show us.
Replaced the radiator with a beautiful factory Toyota radiator. I talked Andrew into holding off on the radiator hoses as the ones on the truck still had the Toyota stickers on them. Previous owner really maintained this truck well from what I can see.
Replaced the valve cover gasket, clogged pcv valve, and petrified pcv valve grommet.
The cam plugs appeared to be sealed with a form of epoxy? That's a first. Chipped it all out and cleaned everything up.
Resealed with Toyota FIPG. Engine looked very clean inside, another sign of good maintenance.
Finally the keys
Should be a simple thing to do but I think it took 5 keys before they cut one that worked correctly.
All finished I headed for BFE to return Whitey to his owner.
After two full days of working on the truck I was ready to be done.
Thank you for the work Andrew, I appreciate it.

Nope
Just the throttle body
4 bolts and a few hoses
Nothing to crazy
The one under the intake will be accessible with the of wheel removed. Much easier then the one I replaced at the back of the head.

Did you check valve tolerances while you were in there with them? Curious how these engines are in comparison to the 2/3rz withers mileage and wear on valve adjustments.
