The first time I saw one of those I was driving my uncle's BMW over Cuesta Grade near San Luis Obispo. My passenger and I, both being geargeads, saw the "oil" light come on after I had tried to let the cruise control take us up the hill without down-shifting. We thought I had really messed something up, but it wasn't making any noise, and after a quick check under the hood, we kept going.
