Buick 231 to Marlin Rebuilt L45 Setup
« on: Oct 18, 2017, 08:28:40 AM »
I picked up a RHD first gen and it came with a Buick 231 to a L45 4-speed that was rebuilt by Marlin and never used. I have the receipt of the rebuild. Trans was bolted back up and never ran. clutch and flexplate used to adapt to the Buick 231 is also included.

Engine is from a 78 Buick Regal and is supposedly rebuilt and bored 0.030 over. I have no confirmation or proof of this however. Engine is a longblock, but i have most of the parts for it.

$600 for the entire setup. OBO.

Ill take some pics this afternoon and post up.

Located in East Bernard, TX 77435

I can strap to a pallet and ship through fastenal if interested.

I would consider running a 231 but you are a little far away from MT...  Just tire kicking speculation at this point but would you consider selling just the engine and whatever the bell housing or adapter, clutch pats etc that makes it hook to Toyota?

I have no use for the 4 speed.

Understood on the 4-speed. I will sell the engine/bellhousing/clutch/etc separately from the trans. Make me an offer. Shipping would be around $150-$200 if i had to guess through fastenal.

I have to run some numbers on a 20r I have laying here vs. this setup.  A guy owes me some money, which I need to collect before I can do anything :).
How about accessories like alt, pulleys, bracket for that stuff is it mostly there or would I need to source that stuff?

Is there an intake manifold on it, valve covers?

I know you don't have a ton of history on it but what you were told but does it look like a fresh rebuild to you if you had to guess?  Is it clean and whatnot?

Don't want to be a pest but what I can offer is dependent on how much I have to get together to make it run vs. my next engine budget.

A picture is worth a thousand words :).

Sorry for the delay in the pics, but here they are. Engine is fully dressed. Carb/valve covers/distributor/alternator/etc

Thanks for the pics.  It's certainly pretty much all there.

The 22r/20r Hybrid in my 4Runner took a dump this weekend.  While this is really tempting and on my list of engines to try before I'm dead, I am about a gasket set away from a 20r a this point and I need to stay cheap and drop in easy.  So I will have to pass for now.

If you still have this come spring time I may bite on it :).  Good luck with your sale, I will tell a few local buddies.
