AC Question
« on: Sep 05, 2017, 04:57:55 PM »
Anyone know for CERTAIN if these AC valves look like the original R-12 valves, or do they look like an upgrade to 134a valve?

They have threads on inside of valve and seem to be the same size internally. The Drivers side goes to the firewall.

Thanks...

OK found the caps in stock at O'Reilly - yea!

Thanks for verifying R134a valves. So I guess previous owner switched it over. Last AC I did ( R12) I thought it has threads on outside on valves so made me question system. The AC over the last few days just was not blowing crispy cold. Got a can of the 134a and it took less then half to get it back in range now she is cold cold.

Only bummer is I thought I was "cool" ( no pun intended) for having a can of Oil Charge R-12 /Oil (4oz) and a a 12 oz can of R-12, PLUS an unopened recharge kit and an opened recharge kit. ( Hose and can "clip" attachment to hose.) Oh well guess that goes back into the storage for another 25 years... I was so looking forward to using this stuff having saved it so long, but oh well....I guess I am a R134a system now..

instead of just replacing the caps at minimum i would replaced the entire r-134 conversion fittings, they dont look to happy. and they are only a few dollars a piece.

Just blast them clean.........

If they're not leaking, leave them alone.

If I tried to replace them, they'd probably start to leak, and I'd lose my whole r134a charge............

I tightened the valves with the little tool I had with cap kit - they had some room to tighten. Wanted to keep the charge in it for now but if they leak out I will replace the Schrader valves first them the conversion valves if that doesn't work.
