So I still have this nice 20r block. According to myths and rumors, the casting is exactly the same so one should be able to bore out a 20r block to 22r size with no drama. Looking at the passages and thickness this seems to be true. Top 22r block bottom 20r, thicker material.
...The rings are shot in my 4runner ...
Hi H8PVMNT,Sorry for my silly questions...Did I miss your report on the inspection of the engine tear-down and analysis? Why do you say they are "shot"? Do you know the manufacturer or source of the rings? This is the engine that you rebuilt and failed at 46,000 miles, correct? Was this block bored? How much over bored? What was the crossinghatching spec? What grit? Was the bore geometry checked?Do you remember your break-in procedure? What break-in oil did you use? At what mileage after break-in did you switch to another oil? What oil? Thanks,Gnarls.
If shipping wouldn't kill it id give you one of the blocks laying in my mom's shop. Once the rig is 3rz swapped the only 22r truck i will have left is an 81 I'm planning do a halfway restoration on.Are you wanting the early short block or the laser block?
