How to use Imgur to host your TOYOTA pictures
« on: Aug 13, 2017, 02:34:12 PM »
Hello all, the photobucket thread has gotten some new bites, so I figured I would make a topic to help people not familiar with image hosting sites. You can use the forum's attachment resource, but any camera I use takes too great of a picture. That means I have to take a moment to manually resize every photo.

For this guide I will be using Imgur. Imgur is my personal favorite because it is very light weight, and there isn't a ton of commitment. You don't need an account to get started so head on over to "imgur.com". You CAN create a free account which will make it easier to find your other pictures, but to this day I still do not have an account with them.

Once at imgur.com, there will be a green/mint button that says "New post"

Click that, and you can either drag your photo over or browse your computer for the photo. I prefer the latter, but the first method is more user friendly. you can drag multiple images to create an album.

So let's say you have the image of your TOYOTA on your desktop, click "New post", "Browse", navigate to your desktop, and double click your image. it should start uploading, and you're nearly done. To host the image to the forum, you need a few extra steps. You need to right click on your image and select "View Image". This will get you to the true URL of your image and allow you to properly insert the image into your build page.

Then, you copy the URL and paste it into your write-up/reply

at first it will look like this, http://i.imgur.com/zK7CXxH.jpg. You need to add image tags. the easiest way to do that is to first highlight the link you posted, and then click the little portrait under the italics button

Now sometimes if your image is too big, the forum will resize it automatically. My phone takes a picture that is roughly 2700x1500, so I like to make my images 800x450. here is the result of this guide :

OK so the phone is going to be a bit trickier to help you with because it varies a bunch from Android to iOS, Samsung to Sony, Chrome to Firefox, etc etc. If you have a computer with internet connection, I would recommend transferring the files from your phone to said computer. If you're looking to post pictures entirely from your phone, you have two options. 1), my way which isn't user friendly or 2), use their app. Maybe you can figure this out, but on my phone I went to Imgur.com. They will not let you upload pictures if they detect you are on a mobile device, so I went into options and enabled "desktop site" which masquerades my phone as a regular computer. Then followed this guide the exact same way.

After messing around with the phone app for a bit, I've concluded it's about worthless for 3rd party hosting (maybe that is their plan) but it will still sorta work. Let me know if you have access to an actual computer. If not I will try to help you with the phone.

Unfortunately my computer is down at the moment with a crashed hard drive so my phone is my only option until I fix my computer

OK see if you can do it this way. Trust me it's better than using their app. This is with Google Chrome as the browser. Your browser (if not Chrome) may not have this option readily available, but I believe it is standard on most browsers. Also don't mind the weird pictures, I had nothing to do with those

Go to Imgur.com and click on the 3 vertical dots

Find the option for viewing as a desktop site

Follow the guide the same as before

EDIT: I forgot about tapatalk. Lots of guys seem to use that with success.
