Early 22r air injection tube convert to late model?
« on: Jul 22, 2017, 08:37:21 PM »
Hey guys, back again with another question (problem?)

i've got an 84 22r. i'm trying to work out what i'm going to do to fit a smog legal header, the current issue is sorting out the air injection tube

My early model 22r uses a different tube than the later models, which poses a problem

Now, LCE makes an adapter kit that would allow me to use my early model air tube with a header, But it cost $100  :shake_head:

I think i could find a later model air tube but my tube does not have the little 2 bolt flange on the end like the one pictured

My tube just wraps arund the back of the head, presumably all the way to the intake.

So if i wanted to go that route, could i just get a newer style 2 piece tube and replace the whole tube all the way to the intake? is that a pain to do with the engine in the truck? would a later model injection tube from an 85-88 fit on my 84?

lets hope these photos worked, first time doing this.

Now, i just found this Doug Thorley header which is set up for top feed injection but it costs a whopping $514!

not that much different in price compared to the LCE + the adapter kit

Pacesetter sells a header that fits the early style air injection tube, and it's quite cheap. but it looks like a piece of junk.

couldn't you just replace the tube that goes behind the head to the other side of the intake and run the complete new style?

FYI, you're talking about the air injection tube. not the EGR. that is on the carb side of the head. the tube goes to the air pump, after some valves.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Yup, that's what i'm hoping to do, just not sure if it's the same on the other end.

Got it, thanks!
