L52 Transmission advice
« on: Jun 18, 2017, 01:33:32 PM »
So I just picked up a 1983 4x4 pickup and a day later the tranny started making bad noises. Long story short I am going to buy a rebuilt one from Marlin but have heard the L52 that came stock in my truck has issues with the input shaft bearing. I am not planning on doing anything too crazy with the truck but if I am going to drop the money for a tranny I don't want to have to do it again anytime soon. So I am wondering if their standard rebuilt unit fixes the bearing problem or if paying the extra bucks for the heavy duty one would be better. I know most people will probably say to just swap it for a tranny out of a newer truck but I am hoping to avoid extensive modifications on this truck.

You'll be fine, if it's just light off road and a daily I'd say it'll work just fine.

I ended up paying the extra, I figure this way if i decide to build it later I won't have to worry about it.
