U-Bolt Flip (rear) Install
« on: Apr 06, 2005, 05:17:04 PM »
Yesterday I got my rear U-bolt flip kit from Marlin (already have the shock relocation mounts) and was test fitting them on the truck.  It looks like the plates will interfere with the shocks?  Has anyone installed the flip kit without relocating the upper mount?  Any pictures?  I am planning to locate the lower shock mount on top of the axle housing, how far inboard can I go without creating a binding problem in the shock?  :help:  :hammerhead: I have Alcan rear springs coming in a few weeks and I want the install to be as smooth as possible.

You should put your shocks in an upside down v configuration.  The round crossmember located above the axle would be your upper mount and the lower mounts would go on the axle near the perches creating a 45 degree angle and allowing for maximum shock travel.   :turtle:  :usa:

Instead of going inboard, instead try to keep your shocks out as far as possible. They will see more travel and absorb more shock energy. Mount them below the spring pack on the backside of the axle and get them as close to the leafs as possible

I would rather have my shocks ontop of the axle.  I put them on the front of the axle (thats were the mounts were when i bought the axle) and one of them got smashed by a rock.  If the shock is on the back of the axle it still could see rock hits by backing up.

I want to leave the upper mount in the stock location and only move the lower mount.  If I mount the shock tube up will that cure the interference problem?  I'm not sure if my RS9000s work upside down?  I know the skyjackers that I have won't.  I don't have any extra cash for new shocks, maybe in the future.

Why is it that everyone mounts their shocks upside down these days?
