Hi everyone,
This is my first post here since I do not go off road or rock crawl. My truck is almost all original.
Surprisingly, the good old Google search hasn't turned up much information on my question so I am posting here.
I have a 1987 Toyota 2WD truck, completely stock, 22R carb. and it has the A43D 4-speed automatic transmission. I want to swap it out for a 5-speed manual but I am unsure which 5-speeds these trucks had from the factory or which 5-speeds were installed in certain applications.
It seems the W-55 is the most common but it appears that there were 2WD versions of the W56 and the R150 transmissions.
Which transmission would have came in my truck from the factory if it was a 5-speed manual?
What are the different applications for the transmissions?
What I have found searching says that I can swap in pretty much any 2WD transmission that bolted up to the 22R. I have also looked at the Wikipedia article about Toyota transmissions but it is pretty vague when it comes to specific applications.
Thanks for any information!
