Topic: Truck cutting out over aprox 3500 rpm- WHY?

I havent driven my 4runner since january. I just got it drivable agian, with new shocks hoops, and for whatever reason, the engine is cutting out over aprox 3500 rpm. Any idea why? Do I have a bad ground?

On a side (maybe the same reason) note, what does the 3rd wire on the alternator go to (one is the plug that plugs in, the other goes to the battery, and I cant figure out the 3rd. Is it a gound?)

I dont know about the Alt. wire without looking at one..

Can you tell if its a electrical cut out or a fuel cut out?

No idea if its electrical. It sounds like fuel, but knowing the condition of my electrical system, its probabally electrical.

Very very annoying when it was running perfect and just passed smog.

I also just moved the coil and power steering pump to make room for the shock hoops. I dont know if that makes a difference.

Question: I had to move my coil to clear the shock hoops. When I went to start it, I didnt hook back up the coil wire. Any chance I fried the igniter?

I just had this problem,,,My truck would just flat out and die on a hill climp over 3500 rpm..Truned out gravity would take my fuel pump over and starve for fuel..With over 230k on the stock fuel pump its no wonder,,but that was my problem..
Once the truck was on flat ground or under that rpm it would work fine,,seemed a little under powered,,but other wise it did not have enough pull..

in the process of moving the power stearing and junk on that side you might have bumped the timing, so that is one thing that you can check. the fuel pump is also something that you can check, generally when a fuel pump is going out you can hear it tap a little like a lifter. and also check the internals on your distributer and make sure it is clean and corrosion free, check the rotor and the button to make sure they are functioning properly. after all that it should be smooth sailing

i forgot to ask if it was carberated or fuel injected? kind of assumed it was carb. but if not then run some injector cleaner. i fits carb spray carb cleaner.

Its a LC 22re.

Another thing I thought is that I had to raise the charchal canaster up about 3" to clear the shock hoops.

check your fuel pump pressure..if the pump is not putting out the correct pressure its not going to run right.

ended up being really bad grounds. I put in new ground wires, and its doin good.

Just gotta find what that burning smell is now.
