..he told me that coolant isn't made the same way it used to be.

Is ANYTHING made the way it used to be?

as An alternative to coolant, you could go with Evans cooling. Ran it in my 67.

I have used Evans before. Expensive if used in large capacity applications, I use it in My banshee. Works great.

I liked the fact that is had almost a zero pressure. I could put piece of foil, where radiator cap would go. Less pressure, less problems. I have 2 gallons sitting on a shelf

Gee... I don't recall hearing or reading that someone blew their radiator cap off.  I would think that if your engine is heating up enough blow off a radiator cap, you'd know something is wrong before that.  And, whatever coolant you would use most likely would not fix that kind of over-heating problem.

Even straight undiluted tiger piss probably would not fix your over-heating issue.  :gap:

I would think blowing the cap off would be a head gasket leak into the cooling system......

Well it was the original cap, the rubber gasket on the cap was almost none-existent, and if I had a leak I'm pretty sure I would have sen it when I flushed the thingl. It happened in stop and go traffic in 105 degree weather with the A/C blowing hard, so it didn't seem too far fetched that the cap burst, but maybe i'm wrong.

I run 60/40 here because I have had 50/50 slush up at 30 below F while driving.  I am using the Napa in house brand green stuff because it tastes better than all the other brands I've tried.

Seen a rad cap on a Chevy do the same thing, the seal was gone and the spring was worn, which allowed it to rattle loose, than boom.

Given Ford's and Chrysler's reliability, not sure I would want to run anything designed to run in their vehicles.  It probably works just fine, but with it being a different color you likely shouldn't mix it, so if you are going to go through the process of flushing the system, you might as well and run Toyota Red.

I did flush it, but the only reason I really went with the G-05 was because I was working at Napa at the time and got a good discount on it, if they carried the Toyota red i would have been all over it. I'll probably be changing out my radiator before it heats up again so maybe I'll flush it and go with the red this time.

You have to completely flush any and all water from the system before you use Evans.

That's why I'm thinking of using it after the rebuild, everything will already be taken apart and cleaned out, easier to make sure the block is dry while it's out, so I'll just have to drain the radiator and blow all the water out of it and I'll be set

You also have the heater core and all the hoses going to it to clean as well.
