Help! T case off a 22re auto?
« on: Jan 29, 2017, 10:49:44 AM »
I just bought an 86 std cab off a buddy for cheep. But it has an Auto. So I'm swapping it out for a manual. There are a few transmissions listed on Craigslist locally but they are all just the trans, no t case. What t case does the auto have attached to the back of it? Would it work on the back of a manual?

Any 21 spline top shift would work.
Thank you for the chart mudder! Helps a lot. I've yet to see the truck but I assume it has an a340 trans, so no top shift case,  so not compatible. Is there anything that can be done with that tcase off the auto?

If it is an A340H the T-case is mated to the auto tranny internally and thus cannot be removed unless you tear it down and even then I don't believe it'll bolt up to a manual transmission.

Yep, as we talked about before. Sell the parts.

Autos are pretty cool off road, expecially in the snow. I became a simi-convert after going out with a friend in 4 feet of snow in his 4runner, he made it look so easy!

If it's a toy I'd say give the auto a chance. If it's a dd at all I prefer a manual, they are just way more fun to drive.   :twocents:

I just bet its an H model, which is just a little more of a pain to get setup right. In all honesty keep the bell housing, TC, flex plate and misc parts, find an AW4, use the bell housing and parts then setup the 231/D300 cases for it and swap it in. Or bolt a Atlas to it. It's a common option I know couple guys running this type of setup with the 22r motor.
