98 Tacoma no power to the wheels when clutch is released
« on: Jan 21, 2017, 12:22:46 PM »
Was driving the old Tacoma yesterday in stop and go traffic, clutch has been chattering for a while now. Got real hard to shift, heard a karunk sound then nothing. Still had clutch pedal, could still shift trans but no movement when in gear with the clutch released. Acted as if the transfer case was in neutral. Any ideas?

I would suspect the clutch. How many Miles on the clutch?
Have you tried it in 4wheel drive yet? see if it moves or Noise changes.

Mudder [08:28 PM]:   not try to be a jerk, but are you serious bestgen?
Prismo [06:11 PM]:   Done, time to relax or as Bestgen says....FREEDOM!
HogCanyonHopper [06:54 PM]:   I like my little rod. it gets the job done

Yup it was the clutch! The center section actually broke out of the friction disk! Clutch had been in for like 8 years and had been beat on pretty good. Replaced it with a 1200lb Marlin clutch and a new flywheel.. should last awhile
