I will also be getting rid of my pesky spool from my rear end. Wish I had the funds for an ARB, but I will be getting Nitro's new lunchbox locker for the 14B. Couldn't resist it for the price. I also swapped out the rear 12" Bilsteins for a set of FOX 2.0 with around another 1.5" of down travel and just to match the front I guess. Now to weezle the funds for the steering  :smack:

Did you consider one of these?

I think this should be the strongest lunchbox on the market because it eliminates the pins.

1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Technically they are all lunch box style for the 14B. No one makes a complete full carrier replacement locker other than ARB and the tru-trac limited slip made by eaton. I will look into it, the guy I get my stuff from actually recommended this locker. I just don't have the factory spider gears. Its actually very reasonable on price as well.

The guy that originally designed the LockRight locker is now working for/with Torq Masters and has told me that the Aussie Locker is made extremely well (i.e. materials and processes) and he considered it to be the strongest on the market.  Considering that the most common failure is the pins, which is why they are sold as a replacement kit, it seems like the new TORQ locker design that eliminates the pins and was designed for the 1-ton applications should be superior to anything with pins.  I think the only "downside" might be that the lunchbox locker may no longer be the weakest link.

Yes, I don't think I would be worried about it not being the weakest link. I'm sure my chromoly spool is just as strong or stronger and places an astronomical amount of stress on my drivetrain. Plus as soft as my suspension is every time I turn the suspension stays sucked down on one side because of the damn spool and turning around on granite sucks  :moon: lol. Im gonna check with my guy tomorrow and see if he has some spider gears laying around and I may get that one. Thanks for the input  :driving:

If you've ever handled an Aussie Locker, it has much softer springs that the LockRight with the concept being that it can disengage easier when needed.  Mine has never not locked when it should, but I have no idea how it would do in a rear application.  I would expect the TORQ to be similar which would be a huge improvement over a spool.

Some small updates. Been a little weird with time and all this crap going on lol. Hopefully by the weekend have this thing back on its weight. Steering will be done in next couple of weeks. Gonna be pricey. Pics will follow on progress.

I should have pieced together my own brackets that I would have needed. I only used 3 of the brackets that came with the Barnes kit and 2 of them had to be cut up. I’m lucky I have a friend with a plasma table and he has helped me out a ton! When I get a chance I will take some pics of his rig. I’m happy with the progress so far and am happy with how it’s looking long term!

Started the chopping for the hoops. Driver side has lots of room. Pass side I will need to re locate a few things, but shouldn’t be too bad. Will post pics when more progress is made.

Shocks are in. Need to clean up engine compartment and get everything I moved around situated. Get one last measurement for axle center before I weld my upper link bracket on the truss and get it all rattle canned. Getting closer each day!

Well got a small amount done. Finished the tubing/gusset work on my hoops until I build my brace. Ordering some new steer arms tomorrow so I can get a little more clearance between my panhard and tie rod. Get some measurements for PSC and order my hydro kit next week. Light at the end of the tunnel. Everything is fully welded at this point. Getting an added fish plate cut out for the perch side of the truss to take it to the tube. Just wanna make sure it has extra strength and doesn’t break lol. Have to take a chunk out of the inside of my frame for upper link clearance. This has been quite the project, but I am happy that I just went for it. Will follow with a couple pics.
