I'm blown away.  I mean, it was the outcome I'd hoped for and not the outcome I'd anticipated, but I'm trepid nonetheless.  I think it's potentially great for our country, but it's foreign relations I am leery of.  Here's hoping he surrounds himself with very experienced advisors and listens to what they suggest he do or say  :ack:

I am thrilled that Hillary did not get in.  But this is going to get interesting for sure.  Hoping for the best...

Dunno who it was but when Reagan won, some 'celebrity' said "We have a third-rate cowboy actor in the White House and they expect us to go to sleep at night without drugs".

Much ado about nothing then, and I hope so now also. Many foreign governments have already stated they will be happy to work with a Trump administration. Nate nailed it though, Trump needs to bring in the right people and take their advice to heart.

Personally I would love to see all the 'celebrities' who said they would move to Canada follow through with their hollow threat. Do the country a huge favor and go away.

WOW, went media dark yesterday, wanted one last day of peace.  Had hoped Trump might win, but expected Hildabeast to win, and put our nation on the path to civil war.  While I like others are a little apprehensive about Trump, not really sure why he ran at all, at least we have a chance to correct/slow our death spiral into socialism.

Yep, and all the nuclear war aftermath movies.

That 3rd rate cowboy actor did quite well with foreign policy, Trump should too if he treats foreign leaders the same way he treated his political opposition, not the name calling but with the same type of strength, which is something that has been lacking the last 8yrs.

One of the people on CNN was talking about how radio, television (JFK), the internet (Obama), and now social media (Trump) were each leveraged by a winning presidential candidate.  Should we be at all surprised that an election involving social media would go to depths beyond anything we could expect?  Social medial thrives on nastiness and Trump was clearly "playing the game" during the campaign.  Now we can all hope that the majority of it was simply him "playing the game" and now he can settle into being a more reasonable human.  I'm glad that he essentially broke the republican party and now has essentially broken politics in general, but it's sad that it took such a negative campaign to get enough attention to make it happy.  I really hope that it opens the door in the future for people outside of the republican or democratic parties to be viable options (i.e. could actually win).  A lot will depend on how Trump actually performs.  If he fails to deliver then it may be easy to revert back to the same old system, but if he surprises everyone it'll be interesting to see what the future holds.

Trump, if successful, will move the Rep party closer to the middle, ending the right wing control of it, something that Gingrich was close to in the '90's, but couldn't hold onto.  This would establish it as the ant-socialist party, which is needed, as the Dem party is clearly in the hands of socialists, something that is desperately needed as the traditional Republicans have pretty much died off, and the pro-gun/America Dems have seen their party leave them.

A brief list of soon-to-be self-deported, if they are to be believed:

Barbra Streisand will be moving to Canada.

Cher plans on shipping out to Jupiter.

Samuel L Jackson, with all the class he could muster, stated "if that mf'er wins I'm taking my black :moon: to south africa".

There are no doubt many more.... these were just mentioned on TV.

Bon voyage, happy trails and don't let the door hit ya on your way out. And DO NOT come back.

Exactly, still waiting for Alec Baldwin to follow through on his threat from '04.  The truth is, that if they thought there was a better place to live than the U.S. they would already live there.

Why is the electoral college important?  Because if this election was decided by the popular vote Clinton would win by just over 300,000 votes out of over 111,000,000 total votes. This would be an acceptable close victory except that Clinton's margin of victory was just over 8 times the overall margin in California. Trump won outright in 29 or 30 states depending on his Michigan shakes out and excluding California carried the popular vote by about 1% vs. the 0.12% overall deficit. The electoral college is there to prevent any single state from changing the course of the entire country. The unprecedented shift from blue to red in so many key states is a clear indicator that Trump is the correct winner rather you love or hate him.

If I get time I am curious to see what the votes looked like the other four times the popular vote did not match the electoral votes. This election is, in my opinion, a vote in favor of it.

The EC was designed for the majority of States to pick the President, not the masses, their input was supposed to only go as far s voting for their House Of Representative.  Our Founders feared majority rule in the hands of the masses, and with good reason, just look at  CA. :maddest:

In '00 Gore had about 1/2 a million more votes than GW, in '04 GW had 3 million more than Kerry, but only won the EC by a 60k margin in one State.

The other two were in the 1876 and 1888 with a 1-200k popular vote difference, and like '00 and '16, both candidates winning the popular votes and losing the electoral were Dems, perhaps a bit of cosmic justice.
