« on: Oct 20, 2016, 09:34:33 PM »
I've got an 84 xtra cab wit ha 22r and I was looking on craigslist for some toyota parts and some guy is sellin a rear axle off a 96' Tacoma v6, is that an easily do-able swap with just a flange adapter or somethin? Or is there a better option out there?

Why do you want to swap axles? Is yours bent or something?

The IFS rear is wider than the SFA trucks rear axle by about 3". What you want is the rear axle from an 86-95 unless you don't mind fabing stuff up so the E-brake fits correctly.

No, I just remember reading somewhere that there were some later model rear axles that were a little beefier than stock 84's and I wanted a kind of "practice" axle so I could do some other upgrades on it like disc brakes, gears and such without having to take off my current axle. It's my daily driver and I'm pretty much self taught on everything with this truck so sometimes it takes me a little while to do things the first time around and I can't have it torn apart for more than a weekend.

Alright cool, I'll keep an eye out for that then. Does it matter if its a 6 cyl or 4 cyl?

It really doesn't. But you do want to get the mounting plates that the U-bolts go though unless you flip the U-bolts when you swap rear axles.

Also that 96 axle would be from a tacoma that is 3" wider than a wide trac which is 3" wider than a sfa truck. Basically you would be looking at your rear wheels sticking out 3" on each side since the taco axle is 6" wider than your existing
