85 22re reve problems
« on: Sep 15, 2016, 08:16:17 PM »
So I have an 85 22re in my 4Runner that I just recently rebuilt. The block was bored, new Pistons, rings, rebuilt head oil pump, timing and all new seals. The truck always had a hard time starting up and I hated that, soy at is why I decided to rebuilt it. Anyways the truck starts on the first crank but now it when I rev it up it goes up and down. When I disconnect the TPS it idles a bit high but I can rev it up and drive it so h no problems. Do you guys think the TPS is bad? This is what it does. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean it revs up and down? The idle changes on it's own? If it's running better without the TPS I'd first try and adjust it using 4crawler's article as a guide.

Thanks all for the help, it turns out that the problem was that when I put back the TPS I installed it wrong.  :smack: Once I figured it out, the problem stopped. Now all I have to do is tune it, since I messed with the idle and timing now I have to adjust that again.  :hammerhead:
