Is the rubber deteriorated on the harmonic balancer, also suspect the flux capacitor could be low on blinker fluid. Definitely one of those two things I'd guess. Seriously though I would bet the harmonic balancer has rotted rubber, saw this exact thing on a early mustang 289.

May be an iput shaft bearing issue on trans ???
