HELP!! rear disk brake conversion troubles
« on: Jun 15, 2016, 10:00:48 PM »
im doing a rear disk brake conversion on my 3rd gen toyota.
i just did the ifs brake swap up front and was planning on trying to swap my solid axle parts to the rear but after a ton of research i decided not to for a couple resons.
you need to turn down the axle flange and also the inside of the rotor.  and if i break on the trail it would make it way more of a pita unless i carried a rear axle/rotor setup spare with me.
ive decided im going to get the monte carlo rotors and calipers.
im not going to worry about a e-brake.
its my understsanding with the monte carlo rotors you only need to turn down the inside of the rotor to clear the axle and not the axle flange like you would have to do if you ran solid axle rotor.
it would be a floating caliper i guess?
i can make brackets thats no big deal.
i know i will need to get 2 rubber hose brake lines then cut/install differnt adapter from my toyota lines for the rubber hose lines.
here if where i am not certain.
what wheel studs will i need to run?
will stock rear toyota axle studs work?
i read that when you do solid axle rotors you can run the solid axle studs [they are longer] but i tried that today and the studs neck up and wont fit the axle flange.
what studs do i need with the monte carlo setup? [monte carlo rotors/calipers.

I'm not sure why would you need longer studs???? If you think about it, the drum goes over the axle and the studs, I'm guessingthe drum is about 1/4" thick where it sits over the studs. When you take that off and now put in a disk over the same axle and studs you should be about the same. I did this swap on my samurai with toy axles but used the Cadillac calipers because of the E-break and I don't have any issues with studs not beeing long enough. I used the same studs that were on the axle.
