Spring in clutch pedal assy - does this look right?
« on: May 21, 2016, 05:00:56 PM »
I'm swapping a 5spd into my factory auto 4Runner.  When I bought my used 5spd pedal assembly, the spring for the clutch pedal had been removed.  I put it in how I think it fits, but it makes the pedal behave weird.  Makes the pedal want to stay forward when the pedal is forward... but makes the pedal want to stay back when the pedal is depressed.

This might be normal since when everything is installed, the pressure plate would be pressing back when the pedal is depressed, I just don't know.

If you can compare my photos to your working assembly I'd be much obliged.  :usa:

this is a functioning unit, I springs forward, and springs backward, hard to keep in middle, if that makes sense

Ovrarok, that also describes it... Won't stay in the middle.  Sounds like I've put it in correctly.  Thanks!

Looks correct to me. All of mine that I've removed the master cylinder from will stick to the floor until the new one is installed and bled down.

I pulled that spring out and used a spring similar to that of  first gen 4runner clutch pedal. The bushings wear out way to fast on those. heres a how to https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/clutch-squeak-linear-spring-swap-tw-how-to.159429/

I did the same thing years ago on my tacoma. The plastic bushing wears out fast then you get an annoying squeak.  I do remember that spring having some tension to it when installed. I placed a rag over it to help keep it from flying when removing it.
