Working Cruise Control on your 3RZ swap?
« on: May 07, 2016, 10:27:47 PM »
I don't know much about the CC system, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what direction I should go.

I have a 1988 4Runner SR5 with CC. That system had a throttle cable that went to the Throttle body and a separate cable from the CC module to the TB.

I've just started my 3RZ swap.  The engine donor was a 2000 4Runner.  I noticed on that model the throttle cable didn't even go right to the throttle body... it went into the CC module... then another cable went from the CC module to the throttle body.  I have all the cables from both vehicles, and both CC modules.

Will my 1988 CC controls operate the 2000 CC module?  This way I'd just keep all the 2000 cables.
Or am I better off Keeping the 1988 CC module and figuring out how to connect the 1988 CC module cable to the 2000 throttle body?

Thanks for any info!

BAM

I would not use this as a cruise control device, in a pinch you may forget to turn down, its not like you can tap the brake to turn off. I do like the idea of using this when your stationary to boost up idle, say for on board air, or an on board shower, on board welder to bring amps up on alternator

I have seen a lot of people use those for rock crawling, I have never done it myself...

I had a hand throttle I used for cc on my FJ40..  but the 4Runner has everything it needs already for factory cruise control.  I just need to figure out which parts will work best.

My 98 taco had cc. It is a simple diaphragm mechanism with a cable very similar to what a 2nd gen (your 4runner) used. Just a quick look at the system I don't see why you couldn't use either of them.

Mine is a 1st gen, engine is from a 3rd gen.  I'm sure it can't be that bad... I'm still waiting on my electrical manual to see the wiring schematic.  I was hoping someone here had already done this though.

Your "1st gen" is the same as a 2nd gen pickup. I was stating that a 2nd gen pickup and a tacoma (whatever gen you want to call that 4runner) both use a very similar set up for the cruise control cable and mechanism. I would probably try to use the one from your donor vehicle.

Ah, I'm up to speed now.  I guess I'll be the guinea pig for keeping the cruise control.

I would like it on my 83 for long trips. It's a nice little option for sure.
