87runner
« on: Apr 21, 2016, 03:22:35 PM »

Been lurking here for years searching not really posting. Figured I would share what I've been working on. Started about 5 years ago, parked it for 4 and finally got it on the road in the last couple weeks.

Specs:
87 4runner
SAS with 5.29s
lock right front and Detroit rear
dual stock cases with Marlin adapter
Marlin front springs and Chevy 63s in rear
37 bfg krawlers

Pretty basic build but its a family rig. Now my little one needs to get a little older so we can get to the trails more!

Thanks guys. I'll get some better pics next time I'm out. Only have two trips so far but everything seems to work good.

Here's one of my little guy in the garage.

For others with kids. how old were they before you took them with?

Here's a video from last weekend that my buddies girlfriend took.

I feel like I don't get as much flex in the front as I should. And I really need to get my half doors done for some visibility. but at least its not a garage wheeler anymore

How many miles are on the front springs? If you only have two trips on them your still breaking them in. You can also take one leaf out of each pack to soften them up more. good luck

Happy new years everyone! Thanks for the kind words. Haven't been able to get out nearly as much as I wanted in the last few months. Did manage to take the rig out to our local orv park for some snow wheeling on new years day. We've got about a foot of snow. Had a blast! Unfortunately i had to work so didn't get much time or any action pics. But here's one from the driveway😃

Also over my 3 day Christmas weekend I spent way too much time finally filling my wheel well gap from the trim job I did years ago. I'll respray the quarters to match in the spring. Just wanted to get it sealed before hitting the snow.

Some issues to address still are:

1. Need different shocks for the rear. My 12" are too long. Only about 2" travel before bottoming out with the top on and all loaded down. Probably step down to a 10" travel.

2. Need more backspacing on my wheels. I rub pretty good on the rear frame and front springs.

3. Fix my rear window wiring. Really tired of climbing back there using a drill battery to roll it down.

4. Body armor. Trying to keep this thing straight!

I guess that's it for now. I'll try to dig up more pics later.
