That's just to support motor while the tranny is out, I think a floor Jack under motor w piece of wood would work

I didn't remove the hood... Really no need to... it's all right there.... yes, that is jsut to support the motor. So I looked underneath, and the pan is weird looking, not sure if it is safe to try and support it there, looks like a aluminum/steel hybrid

I don't have a cherry picker either ;) and those bars are cheaper, about $65 shipped through Amazon Prime so 2 -day shipping -- just need to order


not sure if you scoped out that video I attached, but it appears to be pretty much the same as that, that is just an auto, and I have a stick

Would dropping everything out the bottom and raising the car work?

That's what I did with my sisters 2005 Saturn Vue........

yes, I am doing that, but the motor isn't coming out, just the tranny... I have space to get the tranny out, just need to support the motor


It is up on rhino ramps in the back, and the front is raised up sitting on 6 ton jack stands

I left the engine connected to the tranny, and split them once everything was out of the car.

Turnbuckles and chain attached to 2x4 across engine compartment.

Blocks between 2x4 and fenders to raise 2x4 if needed.

That is what I did. No need to buy something you will use once, maybe twice at most.

ok, so I checked my wood, it's like 3" :haha: get your minds out of the gutter :gap: It should be fine though. I will post pics. going to build it tomorrow. I don't have chains though, just ratchet straps.

That actual supporter bar sure would make it easier, lol

Think I might also try and use the wood under the oil pan also, but am scared I am going to damage it somehow... It is weird, the pan is really small, and attached to what appears to be aluminum....

You just need some dense foam or carpeting between the pan and wood to spread out the contact area.

not my motor... just a pic of one that someone built up... also, that one isn't in the vehicle, haha

see how most of the block is aluminum maybe? and has a really small little steel pan?


If I have to go buy carpet or foam that I don't already have, it makes more sense to just do it right with the stupid bar...

So I built a support bar :gap:  the blocks are actually screwed down to the long piece, and the screw heads protrude halfway up the crossbar, in the front and back to prevent accidental sliding front to rear. The support is diagonal like that, to line up with the lift points that are factory on the engine

I also have a floor jack, lightly, underneath the oil pan. the oil pan is sitting on a folded up, heavy canvas tarp about 3" thick, backed by a wood plank, on the floor jack cradle.....

got the tranny apart today..... everything in it looks good... nothing is blued or anything like that, there is 1 gear, that has some chipping of it's gears... it is the top most gear, on the input if that makes sense.....

as for Cranswick's video from evolutionm.net, everything went as planned... but, I couldn't get that snap ring to drop the bearing... so I started splitting case slowly... then the snap ring actually closed more than it was, and then was able to drop it once I spread it open....
