Help make a decision
« on: Jan 15, 2016, 05:09:23 AM »
I am back on my 84 build and was wondering if I should stick with my stock tranny (works great) or swap out the tranny from one of my parts trucks (88 3.0 or 94 3.0). I just picked up an extra gear driven t case and will be pulling drivetrain to do my duals very soon. If the v6 tranny is a good upgrade what will I need to mate it with my 22r? Thanks for helping a noob in advance guys

Keep your trans, you will need a bell housing from a r151f to mate a r150 (your 3.0 trans) behind a 22r engine. Also you'd need a 23 spline input to be able to mate a rf1a tcase (gear driven) behind the r150 trans. Cheaper to keep your g or w series whatever you have. Sell one of the r150 trans to be able to pay for the dual adapter.

being a 84, you have a g52 trans, if you where looking for a more realistic trans swap, a w series trans would be easier, and less expensive, the w series is a stronger trans then you currently have.  if your running a v8 or something with monsterous power, a r150 series would be a good choice, your current trans has a lower first gear then a r150, if you could find an r151f, that has the lowest first gear, and is a direct bolt-in( no adapters needed)
