Foward shift shift rail interchange
« on: Jun 13, 2013, 02:48:21 PM »
First post.
Heres my issue I have a r151f and the matching t case but i lost the t case shift rails. Any one know if the shift rails interchange between the r, w, and g series foward shift cases. I went to the dealer and they couldn't cross the numbers. Thanks!

According to our Transfer Case Bible, you have a Type 4 transfer case which uses the same shift rods as Type 2 cases, or namely forward shift rods from 8/1983 through 8/1988 transfer cases behind carbureted 22R setups that are mated to either a G52 or a G54 transmission. :D

Keep in mind that there are two different types of forward shift rods: 8/93-8/88 rods with a 4.5-inch offset and 9/88-8/95 rods with a 4-inch offset. You need the former style

Oh, and be sure to tell your Dealership that BigMike from Marlin Crawler said they don't know jack about Hilux transfer cases and to leave this to the pros! :tease:

BigMike

Diggin up old posts...nub question...I have a donor fwd shift case, no idea what it came out of but I am trying to get a positive ID on what case it is by matching it to the list in the bible. My question is how to measure to determine 4" vs. 4.5" offset. I dont have a tranny to measure between shifter openings (I think this is probably the standard measurement to make), so is there another way? Does anyone know the overall lengths of the shift rails in one vs. the other? I have the case entirely apart so this would be the easiest measurement to make at this point. The reason it matters is I need to order an indicator switch and there seem to be different diameter openings on the different cases (maybe I am wrong about this, in which case it does not matter).
