Solid axle hub replacement
« on: Mar 02, 2015, 06:18:50 PM »
I've been wanting to replace my rotors (fj) and wheel studs on my 84 for awhile now. The rotors because they are in bad shape and the studs because a PO used 1/2" studs on the front and I would prefer to have the same metric size as the rear.
I came across a good deal on a pair of hubs with good rotors (fj) and stock size wheel studs for less than it would cost me for studs alone. My question has to do with wheel bearings and races, the bearings on my truck now seem fine and haven't had many miles put on since the po had the front end rebuilt. Would it be a bad idea to use these bearings in the new (used) hubs I have? Money is tight right now so I'm trying to figure out if it's absolutely necessary to buy new bearings and races for these hubs I want to put on. Another option I guess would be to take the good rotors and studs and swap them onto the hubs I have on my truck now, but then I would be paying for labor instead of new parts.
