hard shake but only when right tire hits bump
« on: Jan 26, 2015, 07:20:50 PM »
YES I searched..... and read and went over stuff...so with as much accuracy and from what I can gather....

Symptoms:
Driver side seems fine but when passenger side hits bump itntheows the axle over and starts shaking
Mph 15-30
If you turn right into a parking lot it pulls odd as well...
There's a small clunk
Feels flighty on road you can feel the wheel and front end moving a smidge to freely....

Setup:
TG rock assault housing 5" over
TG 3" springs
High steer set up
Trunion bearings
MTR kevlars 37" brand new

What I've done or checked........
Did the 3/9 shake the 12/6 shake and all seems good
Re did wheel bearings
Tightened all bolts
Tightened shackles
Set toe in 1/8"
Checked tie rods
Checked steering box bolts

I have no sway bar I want to fix it first.....

It was fine for the first few hundred miles....it started the other day then wheeled it...now it does it pretty quick BUT it is only the right tire...it hits things and def.texts the steering from that tire only...the other doesn't effect it......

Possibly trunnion bearings but they are new and there doesn't appear or feel to be any slop...

(I did not set these up so I don't know if one has less preload, but based on the sideways jarring the right side does it acts like its digging in)

I'd say its death wobble but it comes under control semi easily and not at a complete stop...just let off...

Not yelling lol.......
AS A SIDE NOTE IT DOES IT UNDER ACCELERATION NOT COASTING OR ALOWING DOWN IT TRIES BIT ACCELERATING AGGETATES IT

Need to check the caster and camber too, setting the toe is one thing but if one side is riding on the tire edge (camber) or it is too far positive or negative (caster) death wobble can occur. This is especially true with the caster being off when you start lifting it and the oem settings are upset. I had this occur with my 4Runner when I first added a shackle only to my front, once I did the springs and brought it back to specs it settled down.

First thing I would check is the caster, some of the TG housings are not set-up right and the caster is different from side to side. There was a thread about it on PBB a few months ago.

Trunion  bearing  on passenger side is now 10lbs pull and caster is 8 to 9 degrees ....ouch so I'll add 2 degrees to back it off...this is not my doing...I'll do the other Trunion bearing preload tomorrow and add shims to the leafs to reduce caster...
