22re fuel pump circuit
« on: Dec 31, 2014, 10:20:20 PM »
Is it normal for for the fuel pump to run when the ignition is turned/held to the start position without the clutch being pushed in? So without the truck actually being started. Test connector is not jumped and its not with the key in the on position only when turned forward to start position.

Probably depends on the year.

Clutch shouldn't matter.

Not normal for 86

Ok, thanks. This is an 86, at least the FI and electronics are. I suggested doing this to a guy with an 87 who thought he might be having some kind of fueling issue. It didn't work in his case so that got me wondering if mine shouldn't do it.

I doubt it's a problem but it would be nice to know why it works that way on my truck. When I got it it would start with or without the clutch pedal pressed, no clutch cancel switch but behind the blank plate I found the conector for it jumped. Later I pulled the jumper and added a clutch cancel switch. Now the switch has to be on or it won't start, regardless of wether the clutch is pressed or not. I'm guessing the clutch safety switch is bad but I didn't think any of that had a part in the fuel pump circuit.

There's a NO switch in the AirFlowMeter that needs a certain amount of airflow to close, to energize the fuel pump.

That's probably been hacked too...

From the outside nothing looks to be "hacked", it is a complete fuel injection swap, tank, intake computer etc. on a carb motor so there's a chance some things got bypassed. What would I be looking for to see if that NO switch has been bypassed? I know jumping the test connector bypasses the afm and I think the CO relay but that also allows the pump to run with the ignition in just the on position, mine only comes on in the start position and the connector is not jumped.
