Looking into a motor swap
« on: Nov 11, 2014, 02:53:52 PM »
I see a lot of people doing the 7mgte swap and was looking to see what other Toyota options are out there. I am really looking for help with finding sites that offer specific knowledge on a swap. If you know of a site that would be helpful but please don't abbreviate it. I was thinking more of Tacoma motor but open to all opinions as long as they are fuel injected.

2.7l 4cy. and the 3.4l v6 are also common swaps, both Taco motors. I like the 2.7l, I don't have one but it's reliable and would seem to have enough power and gets good gas mileage. The 3.4l is also nice but in my tacoma with 33's does not get good gas mileage. There is quite a bit of info on this site about the 2.7l swap.

The 1UZ-fe swap has been gaining popularity. It is the 4.7L V8 that came in the Lexus LS, GS & SC 400's it is more powerfull than any of the 4 or 6 cylinder options and reported to be more fuel efficient the 22-re or the 3VZ-fe. Then on the more exotic end of the spectrum are the grey market diesel swaps like the one I have (1KZ-te) or the newer 1KD-ftv with common rail injection variable turbo and 16 valve head. When it comes to an engine swap the only limitations are time, money and your imagination. Asking an open ended question such as this is like asking what kind of ice cream is the best. They all good but there is only one best for you and only you can decide what that is.

its all about cost, knowledge, planning and access to tools. i choose the 1uz v8 in my truck because in the long run its a lot cheaper to buy a used engine rather than have it rebuilt or remanufacture. and in addition of doing a swap, why do a swap and not go big.. there a lot of selections out there, but like the previous post, it all comes down to what you want..
