My Favorite Toy... Too bad it weren't mine...
« on: Mar 25, 2005, 01:41:47 AM »
FROM 4WHEEL DRIVE & SPORT UTILITY MAGAZINE
SPECS
Vehicle: 1986 Toyota Pickup
Owner: Tim Miller/ Pollock Pines Callifornia
Engine: 22R-E
Tranny: 93 Toyota 5 spd
T-Case: Marlin's Ultimate Crawler
Frontend: Chevy Dana 60 w/ ARB
Rearend: Dodge Dana 60 w/ ARB
Gear Ratio: 6.17
Suspension: Front: Custom Leaves; Rear: Chevy 3/4 ton leaves
Tires/ Wheels: 39.5x18R15 Boggers/ 15x10 Monster Chrome Mods

The owner swapped in a full-width Chevy Dana 60, along with a custom set of leaf Springs. The axle now sits 3 inches further forward.

In back, a Dana 60 from a Dodge truck was coupled with 3/4-ton leaf springs from a late model Chevy.

Marlin Crawler’s Ultimate Crawler setup features dual transfer cases and provides this Toyota with a crawl ratio of 260:1

The 22R-E has been upgraded with a K&N air filter, a Jacob’s ignition, and a 2-inch Cherry Bomb exhaust setup.

For better steering on the trail, especially in the big rocks, the owner went with a Howe hydraulic-assist setup.

To stabilize the rear axle and prevent wrapping, the owner installed a custom traction bar with dual Heim joints

The simple interior includes a Grant steering wheel, Camaro seats, and a set of Auto Meter guages

The flatbed was custom-designed by the owner to reduce the potential for sheetmetal damage and make the rig more trail-worthy. Note the oak floor planks and built-in cooler protection.

I have liked that truck for awhile too.  we have a magazine with that truck in it at our shop at school.  I get board and look through it over and over.  I also saw it on the Rubicon last summer.

I have a couple of pics of it from last Memorial Day on the 'Con, I talked with him for a bit during the traffic jam on Saturday, he had made the front coilovers and swapped in a 350 already. I'll try to scan them later on.
